College Bound: The Organized Dorm

I still remember my shopping list for my first dorm room. Years ago we kept it simple - the must have storage staple was the old dairy crate and that was pretty much it. The dairy crates organized everything from sweaters and sweatshirts, books. Today is the selection of storage systems are almost unlimited (although the budget did not ...), so equipping one dorm room or first apartment can be a bit overwhelming. I have our summer intern (ask a student) to organize some sharesChallenges she has experienced first hand. We have divided the typical college living space into 5 areas:

- Common area

- Kitchen and bath area Desk

- Bedroom or sleeping area

- The always too small and functionally challenged cabinet.

- Joint

Q: Many dorm rooms are small and have a common space. What would you suggest to the students keep their common area organized? You can also suggest some useful products for the storage ofFood, movies and CDs? "

Answer: The public areas can be a tricky, because you have now entered the zone where your belongings are community property. I would suggest a minimalist approach. When to keep it for a dorm, she simply and portable. There are inexpensive multimedia racks, drawers and even cubes (the "new" dairy crate!) To provide for the storage of CDs and movies.

Trunks, additional table surface, store out-of-season blankets and sweaters to give, and even a good hiding placePlace for your spare linen and bath supplies. When you set up an apartment, make it a group project, so that everyone involved with decisions and share costs.

Many students store their snacks and nibbles, where they hang, so just remember to label them and stay clear. Many discount stores have some really good and inexpensive dry storage options.

Kitchen and Bath

Q: Can you advice to put your stuff separate from yourRoommate in the kitchen and the bathroom? "

Answer: In the kitchen - label, and label them. People are less likely to be something if it will help clearly marked. An alternative system is to share the shelves in the refrigerator - maybe one for each person and a common shelf? If your budget allows, you can purchase a number of food storage containers and clearly label it with your name and you want to include all the warnings. Unfortunately there will always be those few whowill assist each, all to sign, not as a lease with them next year.

There is never enough room in the bathroom, so keep it simple and portable. Buy a shower tote or caddy, a proven product that around for years. I recommend girls go for the biggest bear you can, while most people could probably make do with smaller ones. When searching for a surface of a problem of a hanging dopp kit, which is also to be able to easily connect to a towel holder. Do not forget aboutYour towels; consider large hooks for hanging wet towels. Be extra towels and toiletries in a simple 4-drawer storage cabinet with many discount stores and other retail outlets.

Reception

Q: What would you be on your desk clean and organized work of school before? "

Answer: There are a wide range of great things on the market to keep order on your desk and functional - you are only limited by your budget and your imagination! ConsiderIncreasing the size of your desk by putting your class notes and papers in a file, or make a basket hanging file box that can perfectly under or on the side of your desk. Organize your desk, by the way things together or categorize by subject. Use a bulletin board with a calendar of important dates and deadlines the project so they are not overlooked or forgotten.

The Bedroom

Q: Do you have suggestions for students on how to maximize this space and yet to beto keep as much of your personal belonging in this small space? "

Answer: You can be so creative with this space as you want it. Take advantage of the area, including under the bed, behind the door, has set up the walls, and even the university. Look for wide underbed drawers, they are the perfect secondary storage unit. Hang a shoe bag behind the door and these bags can be used more than shoes - socks, extra toiletries, small camera, film, batteries, water bottles, andand even that extra case of beer. You may hang a few hooks on the wall or install, if a small shelf. If you have a large desk, a hutch, you should consider the additional shelves are very convenient and easy when working at a desk.

The Closet

Q: How do I make the most of this very small room? "

Answer: Several years ago my first dorm closet was about 3 meters wide and 9 meters high. An extremely narrow range in which to cram 9 months worth of clothes and shoes and rememberIt was a time in my life where I detail all the tortured clothes. Today, limited area would be child's play, because I need "mother's uniform" is not much room.

Seriously, most of storage space is at a premium, so you need to use every inch. The right type of hangers is key - an item like a shirt or a trouser multi-level space, and clothes can fit into small spaces. Consider hanging you to add another rod short, since most items CollegeWardrobes are short pieces hang heavy. Another product used to increase space and things always Collapse is stacking shelves. If you prefer your sweaters and sweatshirts at eye level, use a hanging sweater bag that attaches to the closet rod. Do not forget on the floor space - short stacking baskets work well in this area.

Today's student may have a lot more organization and storage options than we have in the past few years, but with a small budget, some advancePlanning may be clear communication with tenants and a sense of humor, their organization and they can place easily reached on what is really important to focus on the college. I was referring to learning - what do you think I meant?
